Multiscale Enstrophy Dynamics Behind Detonation Waves
Abstract
We examine the enstrophy field and its dynamics in a planar detonation flow. Vortical fluctuations arise primarily from baroclinic torque generated at triple-point shock interactions driven by transverse-wave instabilities. The enstrophy field exhibits multiscale features resulting from both baroclinic and dilatational mechanisms active within the reaction zone. This multiscale behavior is analyzed from the perspective of developing subgrid-scale models for compressible vorticity generation in reactive flows at practical computational resolutions.
