Deployable Multilayer Origami-inspired Telescope Shrouds
Abstract
This work introduces a novel deployable telescope shroud concept based on multilayered origami tubes designed to provide micrometeoroid protection, thermal stability, and reduced stray light interference. We present an optimization-based framework for the initial design and analysis of these structures, focusing on achieving compatible inter-layer motions during folding and deployment. Several metrics for quantifying relative motion between concentric layers are examined, and we demonstrate how different objective functions influence the resulting optimized geometry and deployment behavior.
