Aeroelasticity Studies of a 3D Half-Cylinder in Turbulent Flow; A Fully-Coupled Aeroelastic Model
Abstract
Experimental aeroelastic investigations are often limited by the difficulty of resolving detailed flow structures and accurately tracking the motion of rigid or flexible bodies. As a result, computational approaches provide an effective alternative for studying fully coupled fluid–structure interaction (FSI) phenomena. This work presents a numerically robust and computationally efficient framework for predicting FSI behavior in highly turbulent flows. The influence of Reynolds number on the aerodynamic coefficients of rigid and flexible structures is examined to assess model performance. The results indicate that the fully coupled solver reliably captures the relevant aeroelastic mechanisms and provides accurate predictions over a range of flow and structural conditions.
