Comparing Different Algebraic Correlations for Spalart-Allmaras BCM Transitional Model Using Metric-Based Mesh Adaptation
Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the behavior of two correlations for transitional flows thanks to the use of mesh adaptation technology. Specifically, the Spalart-Almaras turbulence model is coupled with the algebraic BCM transitional model. A novel version of this transitional model, involving the correlation proposed by Menter et al. (2015), is analyzed. This approach extends the validity of the transitional model to multiple transition scenarios. Severql flat plate cases are examined and compared with experimental data: four cases with a zero-pressure gradient and three cases with a variable-pressure gradient. The new correlation is calibrated for the SA turbulence model to better match the experimental data. The influence of certain constants within the new correlation is analyzed, and modifications are proposed to have more accurate prediction of the transition point for intermediate values of turbulent intensity.
