Experimental Investigation of Electrical Discharge Machining Process in Aluminum Alloy 2024 Reinforced with SiC and B 4 C Metal Matrix Composite
Abstract
In this experimental investigation, Aluminum alloy 2024 has been taken as a metal matrix which was reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) and boron carbide (_4). The metal matrix composite was fabricated by stir casting method. Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Boron Carbide (_4) as a reinforcement improve mechanical properties such as tensile strength, compressive strength, and toughness of the matrix material. In order to investigate mechanical properties of A2024/SiC/_4 metal matrix composite, tensile and compression test were conducted on the ASTM standard specimens. Furthermore, discussion on different EDM process like WEDM, EDM drilling, its input and response parameters have been carried out. Various input parameters were taken during the machining of AA 2024 to find the Material Removal Rate (MRR) and ToolWear Rate (TWR).
