Abstract

In Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA), the two primary measures characterizing system energies are the coupling loss factor and the damping loss factor. This paper studies the effect of nonlinearity on the loss factors in Duffing Oscillators. The loss factors are calculated via numerical simulations in the time domain, using the general equations derived from the transient power injection method for varying nonlinearity strengths. Parametric studies are conducted for different configurations of the system, including damped, undamped, symmetric, asymmetric, and various excitation modes.
