Ballistic Lunar Transfers to Earth-Moon L4 Quasi-Periodic Tori for Cislunar Space Weather Studies
Abstract
The L4 point of the Earth-Moon system is an ideal location for studying solar coronography through solar eclipse observations. The Sun’s eclipse point is found in the general vicinity of the short-period orbits (SPO). Introducing the true inclination of the Sun adds a vertical component to the eclipse point, significantly limiting observation. The authors previously analyzed quasi-periodic orbits (QPO) in the context of the defined science goals. In this paper, low-impulse ballistic lunar transfers into L4 QPOs around SPOs are investigated. Finite-time Lyapunov exponent maps are leveraged to find low-cost corridors or “highways” of transfers into the region.
