Radiative Heat Transfer in Rocket Detonation Environments via Laser Absorption Spectroscopy
Abstract
Line-by-line spectral databases are employed to infer time-resolved radiance from gas samples probed using laser absorption spectroscopy in detonation environments. Relevant gas composition and temperatures of detonation waves are evaluated to select the important species needed for spectrally-resolved absorption coefficients calculated using the HITEMP database. With precomputed spectra at an array of conditions, calculation of total radiancy based on measured conditions inside a RDRE can be done efficiently using interpolation. Estimates of total radiance are presented based on the coupled measurement and modeling approach, and the scaling of heat load due to radiant emission from the hot combustion gases at different conditions is discussed, relevant to rocket detonation environments.
