Abstract

This study aims to present a novel system enabling simultaneous charging and discharging of a 4S1P LiPo drone battery through a contact-based power transfer interface, eliminating the need to detach the battery. The system integrates a Battery Management System (BMS), MOSFET switching, and a load-sharing circuit to intelligently manage power flow between the drone, battery, and ground charger. Conductive landing pads and onboard charging sink allow for autonomous in-place charging during landing. The system ensures uninterrupted drone operation, battery safety, and enhanced mission efficiency, particularly suited for smart city, delivery, remote area surveillance, and planetary drone applications where the drones are needed to be fully autonomous.
