Turbulence Suppression in the Wake of a Cylinder via Microfiber Coating Under Subcritical Flow
Abstract
The microfiber coating has been studied as a means of drag reduction for circular cylinders. The coating utilizes a fibrous structure and is applied in the wake region of a cylinder for a passive flow-control approach. The study investigates the mean flow pattern and two components of turbulence intensity in the wake region in the subcritical flow regime with a Reynolds number of 6.1 × 10⁴. Results show that the microfiber-coated cylinder elongates recirculation zone and reduces the streamwise and transverse turbulence intensity.
