Abstract

Russia has launched cyberattacks and electronic warfare (EW) against terrestrial and space-based Internet services in Ukraine. With judicious use of existing SATCOM, cloud security and Internet services, these cyberattacks and EW can be overcome by CubeSat systems despite limited budgets and cybersecurity resources. Jamming of ground terminals can be bypassed with the use of SATCOM ISP constellations that can relay TCP/IP messages to ground stations outside of the conflict area. Cyberattacks can be blunted with the use of Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption protocols and cloud-based Secure Access Service Edges (SASE) that have virtually unlimited resources to inspect and filter TCP/IP message traffic. Soon, CubeSat-to-SATCOM communications can be further secured from terrestrial jamming with the use of millimeter wave (Q & V band) frequencies that are attenuated by the troposphere.
