Abstract

In July of 2028, NASA will launch its ambitious Dragonfly mission to explore the prebiotic chemistry of Saturn's largest moon, Titan, using a rotorcraft lander. The automobile-sized, nuclear-powered octocopter will cover more than 80 kilometers of Titan's organic-rich surface, landing at various sites along the way and analyzing surface samples using its comprehensive suite of on-board scientific instruments. In this paper, we present a high-level overview of the flight control system design for Dragonfly, focusing on the structure of the Guidance and Control algorithms specifically.
