Abstract

Most aviation enthusiasts are familiar with the pioneering aviation exploits of the Wright Brothers, Otto Lilienthal, Glenn Curtiss, Alberto Santos-Dumont, Louis Blériot, Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earheart. Few, however, will recognize the name Paul Redfern, and they would be very surprised to learn that he came within a few hundred miles of an achievement which would have resulted in his name being mentioned in the same breath as these well-known legends of flight. Instead, he and his airplane remain lost in the dark and forbidding tropical rainforest of South America. This is the story of Paul Redfern and his amazing 25-year unfulfilled life.
