Abstract

Modeling, Simulation, Experimentation and Analysis (MSE&A) practitioners with decades of experience supporting specific, focused programs of record recently took on new roles in an environment with a very broad and fast-paced portfolio of technologies. This new organization had not yet formed a consistent approach towards conducting Simulation Experiments. Inconsistency has created significant uncertainty amongst our stakeholders, staff, and customers. A widespread lack of clarity concerning cost and schedule, the balance between quality and quantity of output, essential skills required, precise product definition, and the strategy for customer engagement challenged our ability to become the best versions of ourselves. These conditions necessitated a reimagining of familiar processes practitioners normally use. This paper introduces the Simulation Study Protocol (SSP) as a means to provide a consistent approach to simulation experiments and reduce uncertainty for customers, stakeholders and our staff.
