LES of Supersonic Reacting Mixing Layers Using Flamelet Progress Variable Approach
Abstract
Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of supersonic reacting H2/O2 mixing layers, at convective Mach number (Mc) 1.1, using the flamelet progress variable approach are performed. For the flamelet progress variable approach, two forms of presumed FDF (Filtered Probability Density Function) are used, delta FDF and beta FDF and the results are compared with the steady flamelet approach. The results show small differences in the mean temperature, product mass fraction and Reynolds stresses. However, instantaneous fields for temperature and product mass fraction show more differences which are due to the inclusion of the unstable burning solutions in the flamelet database in the progress variable approach.
