Realidad y ficción del paisaje y la información geográfica en el drama latino del Medievo y la Edad Moderna
Abstract
The study of reality and fiction in landscape and geographical description in Latin drama of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period allows us to divide references between a staged landscape, expressed through internal linguistic signs or dramatic stage directions, and a narrated landscape, to contextualize the works or create a thematizing or complementary narrative for the plot. Based on an exhaustive analysis of these elements in Palmirenus’s Fa- bella Aenaria, the conclusions obtained are transferred to a broad list of medieval works and to humanistic drama. The result is a comprehensive overview that links the presence of the aforementioned elements –staged landscape and narrated landscape– to news of performance and the discussion about the representability of these works. It also allows us to establish a clear differentiation, within theater understood as spectacle and text, between the literary dramatic genre and ecclesiastical dramas and mime (e.g., Cena Cypriani)
