Uso, significado e imágenes asociadas al azul ultramarino en la Europa de los siglos XI-XV
Abstract
This article aims to explore a chronological period that has so far been less addressed from the theoretical and methodological perspective of Blue Humanities in terms of the study of images. The two specific questions on which this research is based are: to what extent can the study of images produced in medieval Europe contribute to advancing knowledge about the interactions between humans and aquatic spaces in the past? In turn, how can this new knowledge contribute to forging a more conscious and active society regarding sustainability? To answer these questions, this paper proposes a case study of images associated with the ultramarine blue in 11th-15th-century Europe.
