Spatial Analysis of Oil Production and Marketing in Iraq using GIS
Abstract
Iraq is one of the oldest contras in the Middle East where oil was discovered. The eternal fire of Baba Gur Gur has been known since ancient times, and some people collected the petroleum liquid scattered around this fire to sell it and to use it as a source of fuel and lighting, today, the Iraqi economy relies heavily on crude oil exports for public revenue. Crude Oil is the first source of income in Iraq economy. In 2010, Iraq's crude oil production was 2.715.286 million barrels per day, of which 2.415.231 million barrels per day were exported to the world market. By 2024, production had increased significantly to 4.355.187 million barrels per day ,with 3.335.111 million barrels exported , Comparing the figures between 2010 and 2024, Iraq’s crude oil production grew by more than 1.6 million barrels per day, while exports increased by 950,000 thousand barrels per day, The port of Basra handles around 98% of Iraq’s crude oil exports to global markets, and Advanced Data Analytics and Mapping for Iraq's Oil Industry Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used ,The aim of this study is to demonstrate Iraq's significant potential to produce oil and supply large quantities to global oil markets.
