Abstract

Internationally, nationally, and locally, cloud computing (CC) is transforming operations across both public and private sectors, including the library environment. Libraries increasingly adopt CC to enhance service delivery and improve access to information. This study sought to describe and explore the use of CC in public libraries. Its objectives were to identify the CC tools used by librarians and to determine the factors that influence CC adoption within libraries. A mixed-methods approach was employed, with quantitative data collected from librarians and qualitative data obtained from library managers. The findings reveal that librarians make use of CC applications such as Google Meet to support collaboration and communication within library settings. However, the study also highlights significant challenges, particularly the difficulty of rolling out and maintaining reliable internet connectivity owing to inadequate network infrastructure and the high cost of internet services. The study recommends that the government increase budget allocations and implement measures to ensure equitable and sustainable funding for public libraries.
