Abstract

Since ancient times, Mother Earth has gifted us with a variety of healing plants, many of which have inspired the development of modern medicines. In India especially, medicinal plants hold a special place in traditional healing practices. People have long explored and studied these plants for their potential to regulate fertility, with ancient healers well aware of using certain herbs as natural contraceptives and abortifacients. These herbs could offer valuable alternatives for those who face challenges or side effects with conventional contraceptive methods. To reduce the side effects associated with synthetic anti-fertility drugs, it’s important to find safer, more effective natural therapies. With growing interest in herbal medicine worldwide, researchers are now revisiting these traditional remedies to better understand their benefits and mechanisms. By combining ancient wisdom with modern science, there is hope to develop accessible, affordable, and eco-friendly contraceptive options. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of medicinal plants used worldwide as anti-fertility agents, creating a solid foundation for future research to identify the most promising and effective herbal options in this field. Ultimately, such efforts could broaden reproductive choices and improve healthcare outcomes for many people around the globe
