Abstract

This study examines the ethanolic extract of Lablab purpureus seeds phytochemical makeup, antioxidant properties and antibacterial properties. Bioactive substances including carbohydrates, quinones, terpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and phenol compounds were detected by phytochemical screening. The extract showed strong antioxidant capacity with a concentration-dependent increase in DPPH radical scavenging value of 80%. Furthermore, common pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (27 mm), Klebsiella phemoniae (25 mm) and Bacillus subtillis (12 mm) were used to test the extract's antibacterial efficacy. Significant antibacterial activity was demonstrated by the extract with S. aureus showing the highest inhibition zones. These results support prospective use of Lablab purpureus seeds as an antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent in natural medicine by indicating that they have significant antioxidant and antibacterial qualities. The albumin denaturation method was used to assess the anti-inflammatory properties of Lablab purpureus seeds. The results showed that the seed was effective in inhibiting albumin denaturation in a concentrationdependent manner, with an inhibition of 85% at 50 µg/ml. GC/MS analysis also indicates the presence of fifteen bioactive compounds. These findings demonstrated that Lablab purpureus seed has potential nutraceutical applications.
