Abstract

The objective of this study was to ascertain whether it was possible to achieve stable production of 20 mm thick butt joint using laser-arc hybrid welding. An investigation was conducted into solutions for welding defects that occur during construction (hot cracking and penetration bead humping). The relationship between various welding parameters and weld quality was verified. Furthermore, in order to consider the applicability of the methods to shipbuilding sites, construction methods capable of accommodating variations in the accuracy of prepared joints were also examined.
