Abstract

Introduction: A more inclusive sport system matters to all of us, and the responsibility lies with system leaders to work together to create the conditions for long term change that can lead to a healthier and more equal Wales. For change to be sustainable and effective it takes meaningful engagement with sector leaders, the community and the inclusion of individuals and groups who are not naturally engaged with this agenda. This report presents the first stage of a two-stage project commissioned by Sport Wales to develop an inclusive sport and physical activity system in Wales to better support participation across Wales, for everyone in Wales. The project’s aim is to foster a sector led approach to making sport and physical activity in Wales more inclusive, and to address participation inequalities. It has two stages, the first (represented in this report) is to understand better the sport and physical activity system in Wales through mapping the system and identifying system leaders, to understand current practices and opinions of inclusiveness in sport and physical activity, and to identify examples of good practice in Wales. The second stage is to develop stakeholder leadership groups to undertake action learning to develop a Wales wide stakeholder engagement plan to address inequalities in sport and physical activity participation in Wales.
