Abstract
This is a qualitative Systematic Literature review dataset on Data for Dignity: Informing Youth Livelihood Strategies Across Africa’s Labour Landscape with the main research question “what data is needed to make informed decisions about policy strategies for dignified youth livelihoods and youth futures in Africa”.Selected studies considered eligible for inclusion in the review had to focus on strategies and data concepts or capital for attaining skilled and unskilled employment, dignified and sustainable livelihoods for African youths and youth futures. Been an emerging and nascent research area within the African academic community along with the impact of the COVID pandemic on African youth livelihoods, the search only considered studies published between January 2020 (which marked the confirmation report by most African nations National Institute for Communicable Diseases of the presence of the COVID-19 virus pandemic) to January 2026. The studies accounted eligible had to report on the data related to African youth livelihood capital assets, human, social, physical, natural, financial, and emotional. Given that some African countries are English speaking, Arabic Speaking, French speaking, Portuguese speaking or Spanish speaking, those studies written in other languages apart from English were translated to the English version included as eligible in the study. Some studies were written in dual languages, the English version was chosen. Keywords Searched TS = ((“youth livelihood”)) AND ((“strategies”)) AND ((“skilled employment”)) AND ((“unskilled employment”)) AND ((“poverty reduction”)) AND ((“dignified livelihoods”)) as well as ((“livelihood capitals”)) AND ((“Africa”)). These search words were included to identify every relevant literature along with a thorough reading of the references within the relevant searched articles to snowball into the identification of other possible and relevant research studies.
