Abstract

Dowry chest, another exhibit from the school museum. These chests were called German because they were bought from craftsmen from German villages in the southern part of Bessarabia. They were used to put the dowry of young girls from the family in them; when she got married, she received the chest along with cheese (dowry). It looks like chests from the beginning of the 20th century. It is covered with a piece of fabric made of multi-colored woolen threads.
