Abstract

The audio captures the rhythmic soundscape of the spinning wheel, or Chakhur, as BBN from Royee village begins the process of spinning weft yarn. The steady hum of the wheel, punctuated by subtle creaks and soft whirrs, accompanies BBN’s focused, deliberate movements as she guides the wool onto the spindle. Her practiced touch maintains an even tension, ensuring a consistent and uniform weft thread. Firmly anchored to the ground, the Chakhur methodically transforms raw wool into delicate, usable yarn, embodying the intricate skill, patience, and cultural heritage woven into the wool-spinning traditions of Royee.
