Traditional Felting Process of Shu Cloth by MAK in Garam Chashma
Abstract
MAK demonstrates the traditional felting process in Garam Chashma, an essential step in transforming woven Shu cloth into its final dense and interlocked form. The process involves interlocking loose fibers using a combination of moisture, pressure, and manual labor. In this image, KRM is seen standing barefoot in a pool of natural hot spring water, beating the cloth in layers with his feet and a stick. The motion and heat work together to bond the fibers, softening and densifying the fabric.
