Abstract

The INSIGHT Framework Reflective Companion has been developed to accompany the INSIGHT Framework: Early Years to Early Primary – Guiding Positive Behaviour Workbook. Its purpose is to deepen educator reasoning across the six stages of the Inclusive Planning and Reflection Cycle. The INSIGHT Framework provides a structured process for guiding positive behaviour through reflective assessment, collaborative goal setting, barrier identification, inclusive design, evidence-informed implementation, and iterative refinement. The Reflective Companion strengthens this process by prompting careful interpretation of learner variability, environmental conditions, relational dynamics, and contextual influences before documentation occurs.Early Years and Early Primary settings require nuanced, context-sensitive decision making. Children participate in learning through play, inquiry, movement, communication, culture, and relationships. When we consider behaviour, we reflect on the interactions or intersections that may exist between capability, learning design, social environments, adult expectations, and any other condition that may enable or act as barriers to participation. The Reflective Companion supports educators to interpret these interactions holistically, ensuring that guiding positive behaviour remains inclusive, strengths-based, and ethically grounded.Beyond a template or checklist, the Reflective Companion functions as a professional reasoning scaffold that broadens analysis while preserving educator judgement. The INSIGHT Framework provides the planning architecture. The Reflective Companion deepens reflective clarity within that structure.
