Supporting data for "HIGH-TEMPERATURE ROCK MECHANICS: INSIGHT FROM EXPERIMENTS AND NUMERICAL MODELING VIA THE HYBRID FINITE-DISCRETE ELEMENT METHOD"
Abstract
This dataset supports the PhD thesis titled "High-Temperature Rock Mechanics: Insight from Experiments and Numerical Modeling via the Hybrid Finite-Discrete Element Method." High-temperature rock mechanics is critical to engineering projects such as nuclear waste disposal, geothermal energy extraction, and thermal energy storage systems, as rocks under such conditions form complex multiphysics systems governed by tightly coupled thermo‑hydro‑mechanical (THM) interactions. To advance fundamental understanding in this field, the thesis establishes a systematic investigation into the behavior of polycrystalline rocks under thermal loading, with the primary objectives of developing an integrated numerical framework for multiphysics coupling and deriving practical engineering insights for high‑temperature geological environments. The dataset includes original experimental data: Excel files from thermophysical property tests on Hong Kong rocks in Chapter 3, and .txt files from fibre‑optic sensing tests for temperature and strain in Chapter 9. For the numerical modelling presented in Chapters 4 through 8, the corresponding input files (.y files) are provided, which contain the complete parameter sets, boundary conditions, and mesh definitions required to run the simulations directly in the Y‑geo (FDEM) code. All data are structured to facilitate verification, reuse, and further development of the models described in the thesis.
