Abstract

This joint statement by the German Society for Empirical Educational Research (GEBF) and the Working Group for Empirical Educational Research (AEPF) provides recommendations for implementing Open Science in applied, quantitatively oriented empirical educational research (EER). It outlines the foundations and principles of Open Science, discusses associated opportunities and challenges, and offers concrete recommendations for implementation by individual researchers as well as higher education institutions and research organizations. We explicitly acknowledge the diversity of disciplinary perspectives and research approaches. At the same time, we take the position that a core set of scientific principles exists that characterizes open and transparent research (DFG, 2019; 2022), and that these principles can therefore serve as minimum standards that all researchers and research institutions in EER should follow. Beyond this core, the statement also identifies Open Science practices that are worth adopting but exceed these minimum standards. While their adoption is recommended, this statement does not treat them as binding standards for empirical educational research. (DIPF/Orig.)
