Abstract
The article deals with the early stage of archaeological research of V. V. Nagevich (1880–1954), a graduate of the Military Medical Academy and the St. Petersburg Archaeological Institute. His first excavations were related to the study of burial grounds in Kovno province and were carried out in cooperation with the Imperial Archaeological Commission. Thanks to this fact, the Scientific Archive of the IIMK RAS has preserved documentary evidence such as reports, correspondence, and financial documents of 1905, 1908–1912. The information contained there is supplemented by the materials of the Photographic Department – high-quality photographs of finds from the excavations of those years. These sources shed light upon an insufficiently studied period in the scientific activity of V. V. Nagevich and allow us to introduce the materials of his early excavations into scientific turnover.
