Abstract
During four field seasons (2020–2023) in the eastern part of the settlement Gorozhane an extensive inland pit (pit 6) was being investigated. Stratigraphic observations and a series of radiocarbon dates allowed archaeologists to reconstruct the history of development of the cape part of the settlement site from the turn of the 10th–11th to the middle of the 11th century, and to attribute the object itself – pit 6 as a well. The object studied at excavation 4 of the settlement Gorozhane is currently the oldest known well of the 10th century in the North-West of Russia.
