Abstract
В 1910 г. In 1910, a student at Moscow University, later a well‑known Moscow art historian and connoisseur of ancient Russian architecture, B. N. von Eding carried out architectural and archaeological excavations of the Byzantine temple of the XIII–XIV centuries in the tract Dimitraki, located on the coast 1 km west of medieval Sugdeja. These excavations turned out to be completely forgotten and were only briefly mentioned in literature with erroneous authorship. It was believed that D. N. von Eding conducted them. However, the research diary and other expeditionary documentation preserved in the Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museum make it possible to restore not only historical justice, but also all stages of work to identify the construction plan. Based on the thoroughness and scale of the work, conclusions can be drawn about the method of stripping in the archaeological layer of filling the object with a unique complex of fresco painting that has reached us. This complex, preserved in the funds of the State Historical Museum, is represented by 109 fragments. It was concluded about the significance of these small excavations for the formation of methodological methods of architectural archeology, as well as for dating the late Byzantine temples of Taurika.
