Abstract
Unlike the markings found on plinfas, signs, stamps and marks on ceramic tiles have not yet been the subject of dedicated scholarly research. Such markings were used rarely and are found in only a few monuments in Northeastern Rus’, Kiev, Pereyaslav, Turov and Novgorod. The predominant marking technique involved applying relief signs to the lower bedding surface of the tiles. These can be categorised into four types: circles; two‑pronged figures; rectilinear shapes; and curvilinear shapes. It is most probable that these markings served as indicators of the output of individual craftsmen involved in tile production.
