Abstract
I. The paper shows the role and place of the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea in Russia's foreign policy in the first quarter of the 18th century. It is noted that Peter I assigned an important role to the Caucasus in strengthening Russia's southern borders and developing trade with Eastern countries, particularly Iran and India.
