Abstract

This article examines Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's childhood and adolescence, which influenced his work. The composer carried the theme of childhood-namely, purity, kindness, and honesty - throughout all his works. Particularly noteworthy is the album "16 Songs for older children" which features musical illustrations of both pleasant and depressing episodes in human life, accompanied by the sounds of nature. Through music and song, Pyotr Ilyich reveals crucial social, moral, ethical, and psychological situations, attempting to gradually and gently prepare children for the tragic problems of the adult world. The composer employs various genres and stylistic devices in his sixteen songs, writing for different voices, and employs a circular arrangement of keys as a means of embodying the cycle of life. The album ultimately concludes with a magical fairy tale, which Pyotr Ilyich associated with the miracle of childhood itself, relieving the moralizing of the preceding 15 songs.
