Abstract

Indonesian Awaous (Teleostei: Oxudercidae) species are reviewed. Three species are recognized in this area including one new species, which is described in this paper using genetic and morpho-meristic approaches. The three species differ by a high percentage of divergence in partial COI gene (654 bp) and by several characters including mainly the presence or absence of a large white-edged black spot at the posterior base of the first dorsal fin, the number of predorsal scales, the number of scales in the lateral series, the presence or absence of scales on the prepelvic area and on the pectoral fin base.
