Abstract

This study investigated geraniin, a natural compound derived from rambutan rind, as a plant-based intervention for skin aging. Although geraniin exhibits potent antioxidant activity, its poor dermal absorption limits topical efficacy. To address this, geraniin was incorporated into nanophytosome formulations to enhance skin delivery. In vitro assays demonstrated inhibition of key enzymes associated with wrinkle formation, pigmentation, and loss of elasticity. In vivo studies in mice confirmed the formulation’s safety and revealed improvements in skin hydration and elasticity, alongside protection against UV-induced damage. At the molecular level, geraniin nanophytosomes supported mitochondrial function and protein homeostasis, indicating their potential as a natural, effective anti-aging skincare solution.
