Abstract

This explainer raises awareness of clause 64 in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, related to emergency management. The clause commits all parties to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples before, during and after emergencies, to take into consideration the impacts on Indigenous communities, and ensure that Indigenous peoples can recover at a comparable rate to non-Indigenous peoples. The Explainer highlights the benefits of integrating Closing the Gap and emergency management policy for more sustainable and effective outcomes for Indigenous peoples.
