The role of interfaces and system size in gas hydrate formation kinetics
Abstract
This thesis develops a comprehensive framework for scaling gas hydrate formation kinetics insystems with and without kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KHIs). Using custom-built apparatuses, itexamines nucleation and growth across varying subcooling, interfacial areas, and volumes. A refinedscaling model accounts for nucleation site distribution and KHI partitioning, with a Hill equationcapturing inhibition effects. The unified model enables translation of lab-scale data to industrialconditions, improving risk prediction and guiding inhibitor selection and dosing strategies.
