Abstract

This is the protocol for the SNaPP randomised controlled trial. We recruited adult male and female patients having abdominal and thoracic surgery under general anaesthesia. Patients were randomised to sugammadex or neostigmine for reversal of neuromuscular blockade at the end of surgery. The primary outcome was postoperative pulmonary complications (comprising atelectasis, pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome and aspiration pneumonitis) until hospital discharge (or postoperative day 7 if still in hospital).
