Τα βιβλία του Θεόφιλου = Theophilos’ books
Abstract
Alexis Politis catalogues and comments on thirty books kept in a small coffer that once belonged to Theophilos and later came into the possession of Andreas Embeirikos. Most of them are short pamphlets; they offer a rare and revealing evidence of the painter’s relationship with written tradition, and insight into the use of popular books by their actual readers – what Politis describes as their “parathetic” or “emotional” use.
