Abstract
The article examines extreme values of weight of snow cover (WSC) recorded at a number of meteorological stations in Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Adygea and the effect of taking them into account during statistical processing of variation series of annual WSC maxima. The complete correspondence of the observed extremes of the WSC in the territory of Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Adygea to the degree of anomaly of the winter of 1953-54 according to catalogues developed by the A.I. Voeikov Main Geophysical Observatory is shown. The criteria for the primary assessment of the extremeness of a data series are proposed as a 30% excess of an extremum over the next WSC maximum. It is shown that with an increase in the observation period and updating of meteorological data, an extremum can turn into a regular maximum of the variation series. The correctness of excluding the extreme value when calculating the WSC with a 25-year return period and the need to take into account the full series of meteorological data for a return period of more than 50 years are confirmed. The lower limit of the extreme value of the WSC is determined to correspond to the average recurrence period of 500 years. Based on the "emergency extremes" observed at the Krasnodar, Labinsk and Kanevskaya meteorological stations, the actual period of their single excess is determined to be 1,000 years. The numerical values of additional reliability factors γa provided by SP 296 when determining extreme snow load have been clarified.
