Abstract

While the method of manual inspection reliably produces correct results at the introductory level, it can often appear untidy and unintuitive and lacks teachable depth. This paper presents a novel alternative approach designed to achieve the same outcomes as manual inspection but with enhanced clarity. It serves as both a pedagogical and visualisation tool, offering an alternative perspective on balancing chemical equations at the introductory level. The primary beneficiaries of this study are instructors at the introductory level of chemistry, where manual inspection is inevitable. This article serves to contribute to the ongoing discussions surrounding issues with manual inspection, suitable introductory alternatives, and the overall comprehension of the somewhat unteachable and abstract process of balancing chemical equations.
