Conversion between 3- and 2-dimensional halogen-bonded networks formed from a single building block
Abstract
A single building block bearing complementary halogen-bond donors and acceptors is described. Crystallisation is solvent dependent, forming 2D and 3D networks with a predictable donor-acceptor arrangement. Upon solvent exchange, the 3D-network undergoes an unprecedented single-crystal transformation to a new 2D phase. Far-infrared spectroscopy was employed to identify diagnostic signals for phase transition.
