Metal-free Csp2-Csp3 coupling to synthesize benzylic quaternary centers
Abstract
Synthesis of benzylic quaternary centres remains challenging. The coupling of malonate pronucleophiles with diaryliodonium electrophiles is a potential solution, but limited in scope. Herein, we describe conditions that use unsymmetrical aryl(TMP)iodonium salts, a sustainable solvent and mild base, which is safer than related methods and less wasteful than metal-mediated reactions.
