Abstract

Ever since the advent of femtosecond pulsed laser, the field of the Terahertz (THz) generation and detection has become dependent on development of NonLinear Optical (NLO) crystals which exhibit strong optical to terahertz conversion efficiency under suitable experimental conditions. In order to realize this phenomenon an important process called phase-matching needs to be achieved between the optical and the generated THz waves in an effective manner in the selected NLO materials. This chapter deals with the selection of materials which exhibit phasematchability, in their polycrystalline state, and employing suitable materials for THz applications.
