Abstract

This chapter introduces pyroelectric single-crystal materials and their functions in device applications. It begins with a historical overview and an examination of the underlying concepts of pyroelectricity, including a detailed discussion of crystal structure effects, material selection considerations, and advanced growth methodologies. As charge-generating materials in pyroelectrics responding to temperature changes, these components hold a central role in thermal detection, infrared sensing, and energy harvesting. of these, single-crystal forms are especially attractive for their uniform structure, high sensitivity, and stable performance for possible applications. The characterization techniques needed for the pyroelectric materials and the issues on the crystal growth, and optimization information are presented. Recent developments, future trends, and possibilities in the area are also featured in this chapter. Experimental case studies further demonstrate the significance and diversity of single-crystal pyroelectric materials in advanced sensor and detector technology.
