Abstract

This research presents a technique that Identifies objects over railway tracks in foggy weather using radar technology. A simulation software named MATLAB is used to model the railway track with a granite basis and random impediments on the track. A radar system with multiple frequencies is modelled to identify these objects using received reflected power. The impact of fog attenuation on the proposed strategy is evaluated by considering variables such as carrier frequency, antenna gain, radar cross-section (RCS), and detection threshold. The detection range is estimated by calculating the received power for the distances of up to 2000 meters. The simulation findings showed that fog significantly impacts high and millimetre radar signals, and results into accurate Detection to a limited area. which confirmed the fog- attenuation hypothesis. However, the low frequency radar systems are very effective in early- warning systems under the foggy conditions.
