LETRAMENTO RACIAL E ECOLOGIAS DIGITAIS DE ENFRENTAMENTO AO RACISMO ALGORÍTMICO
Abstract
This article investigates the articulation between racial literacy practices and the interpretation, circulation, and contestation of processes of automated racialization in artificial intelligence systems, with emphasis on generative technologies, from a critical approach to algorithmic racism and necroalgorithmization (Araújo, 2025a). It draws on Silva (2022), Bento’s (2022) notion of the pact of whiteness, and Twine and Steinbugler’s (2006) conception of racial literacy as a sociopolitical practice, conceiving the algorithm as text and algorithmic circulation as a situated discursive practice (Araújo, 2025b). Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative approach informed by virtual ethnography (Hine, 2000), based on public denunciations and social media commentary. The analysis identifies interdependent digital ecologies of counter-necroalgorithmization and demonstrates algorithmic racial literacy as a distributed practice of critical reading, knowledge production, memory-making, and collective action within contemporary algorithmic governance structures.
